Our location and heritage give us a life enjoying "the best of both worlds"
Have you ever been to an Apple Farm, or enjoyed a hay ride on a sun-kissed fall afternoon? How about attend, or participate in a Revolutionary War re-enactment? How does picking up fresh vegetables and a home-made apple pie from a local produce stand on the way home from work, sound to you? If you enjoy the outdoors, it's hard to beat our "foothills climate" and "rural peacefulness," complete with the kind of fun for adults and kids that makes for lasting memories. We get out and have fun in Cherokee County!
In contrast to these charming treats are all the modern conveniences you could want, like our Prime Outlets Mall, which actually draws shoppers from Charlotte, 2 major indoor malls accessible in about 30 minutes, and premier shopping is in Charlotte. Many of our neighbors have season tickets to pro sports teams, like the NFL's Carolina Panthers, NASCAR, and The Peace Center in Greenville, as well as The Blumenthal in Charlotte are all in about an hour's drive or less, and accessible via easy Interstate (no stoplights) driving (see below).

The 1 million gallon "Peachoid," water tower honoring our history of once producing more peaches than anywhere (including Georgia!), our new Movie mega-plex, and Harolds "World Famous" hot dogs

Although growth signs are abundant, we didn't just sprout up overnight and out of nowhere, like many other big city suburbs which look the same and have no soul. We recently celebrated our bicentennial, and as we grow, we honor our heritage and maintain its identity, and the values that make Gaffney and Cherokee County special, and unique!

Gaffney is known for its annual "South Carolina Peach Festival," held over a 2-week period in July. Thousands enjoy the downtown parade, concerts, arts & crafts, and food sampling events. The Peach Festival is a 100% volunteer effort coordinated by the Chamber of Commerce.

Spearheaded by local businesswoman Gayle White (pictured) and CPA Jim Cudd in 2004, we "rebuilt" our city founder's cabin (with a few of the original logs!). The circa 1804 Michael Gaffney Cabin sits downtown across from City Hall, signifying how we embrace our history

The stands at Gaffney Little League Football's Love Field
- The result is a "hometown" in which we take pride, feel close to each other, with a refreshing lack of pretentiousness. Here construction workers eat next to attorneys at Harold's, friends share a table at Mabry's for breakfast and talk about the prospects for our high school football teams, which are always good!
- As we grow, we will always have a "smaller town" feel, and without any sacrificing of modernization, but we have no skyscrapers, heavy traffic, crime, congestion, higher prices, noise or air pollution they are under an hour away if you want them! Even Atlanta is under 3 hours.

Ralph Lauren, Banana Republic, Pottery Barn, Nike (in total 80) Prime Outlet stores, right here in Gaffney. Local shopping also offers Belk, Lowes, and national chains. Anything else you could possibly imagine is accessible in an hour or less!

Kids Day at Cowpens National Park
- Cherokee County is the only county
in SC with
two National Parks in its orders, both dedicated to the
Revolutionary War
There may be no better place in America to raise a child than Cherokee County. What's available here is safe, healthy fun for kids of any age here you will make meaningful memories with friends and loved ones that will last forever.

Big-time movies and NBA Bobcats games
Our unique local entertainment, from Gaffney Little Theater, Limestone College productions, Brattonsville (a working colonial village where Mel Gibson's The Patriot was filmed), to Friday nights cheering on the Gaffney High Indians (the best team in SC yet again in 2006), is complemented by our ideal location between Charlotte and Spartanburg/Greenville, which allows us to enjoy the cultural offerings of both! Here we also golf, go horseback riding, biking, kayaking and attend pro sporting events.

While there is no Capital Grill or Ruth's Chris steakhouse in Cherokee County, they don't have chow chow or pear relish, hot pickled okra, wassail, or the best vinegar-based BBQ in the country! Check out our local fare!
From Charming to Glamorous:
Along with charming festivities, stores, places, state parks, rolling country sides, and traditional events that make Cherokee County our unique home, we can quickly transition to fine arts and entertainment, either locally at Limestone College, Gaffney Little Theater, or in Greenville or Charlotte in 45 minutes to see Broadway-caliber shows, and concerts.

Limestone College's 1,000-seat Fullerton Auditorium is a central gathering place for campus events and as the largest meeting facility in Cherokee County, it is also used by our community. Limestone's Theater and Music departments sponsor performances and productions by world-class musicians, and Gaffney Arts Council has sponsored 6-show annual seasons since 1977.

The Blumenthal Performing Arts Center Charlotte |
The Peace Center Greenville |
These are perhaps the best 2 performing arts centers in the southeast US! You might conclude we enjoy a better arts season here vs. living in either of their cities because in Cherokee County it is convenient to both we're truly in the perfect location to enjoy life!

We are the only county in South Carolina with two National Parks!
The fall colors in our area, which is close to the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, are spectacular! We thought you might like to see a few photos we snapped on a sunny fall afternoon in Kings Mountain National Park, which is featured in this section in Kids & Family.
